  • Die brakke metro zou doorrijden : "wat mij betreft direct naar de schroothoop" volgens de conducteur… #
  • Lijkt meer op een zuidamerikaans land zo. #

  • Iedereen op perron stond te wachten. Volgende kwam op àndere perron. Hopelijk nu weer door…. #
  • Toen kwam de stem weer: metro is gaar, volgende halte iedereen overstappen op metro achter ons (ja dat past natuurlijk echt…) #
  • Dit wordt een soap. Op RAI stapte iedereen die was blijven zitten to WTC weer in: metro vol (maar ik zat). #
  • #kutov echt te grappig dit (not). Net op Rai uit de 51 gestapt waar ik ingestapt was (slim) om over te stappen. Kwam dezelfde 50 er aan! #
  • En nu zit er een enorme muts hardop te bellen in een doodstille metro over hoe megakuT haar leven wel niet is…. #
  • #KUTOV mijn metro staat nu al 5 minuten stil op overamstel… De conducteur stapte net uit en weer in, reed 50 cm. en stopte weer. Grrrrr #

5 days off 2006: dag 3

Vond een oud report van mezelf, grappig om weer terug te lezen:

“Day 3
Today I spent all day at work thinking about how many times I would have to make the trip from the melkweg to paradise or vice versa. It was to be 5 times . In Paradiso I caught the first tunes of Nettle. A guy with a desktop computer, a violin player and a woman playing a rather strange looking chello. Together they created a nice atmosphere, helped by the VJ. But in the Melkweg Headman was about to start so I hopped over to check him out. Last time I heard him he played a great set so his live act interested me. It seems that house music has come full circle and become rock again; a singer, two guitarists (one also operating the laptop) and a drummer filled the stage. Hardly a live-act as you usually see. They sounded nice, though not as spectacular as it could have been. At times it just missed the tempo to convince the crowd to dance. So I went over to the MAX where Boys Noize was playing some really great tracks. All I had heard from him was the his remix of Bloc Party’s Banquet. Definitely a new favorite dj for me!

Zombie Nation entered the stage wearing a leather/rubber mask full of metal spikes sticking out. Though this was a nice touch, it didn’t have much of a shock effect, and he took it of after one track. Don’t know if it was just too hot, or just not really working. A very nice set followed, with slow and fast tracks but he didn’t really get the crowd on their dancing feet. You could feel that the crowd was there for one reason and one reason only… Or actually two.
So I hopped over to Paradiso to see Aardvarck. I had seen his live act at Studio 80 a couple of weeks ago so I knew what to expect. Great stuff, nice tempo, solid. Too bad the crowd wasn’t as good as back then in Studio 80. Just goes to show you the same live act can have a completely different effect depending on the people who are there to witness it. My curiosity then sent me downstairs to the main room.
B12. I have some of their tracks from a few years ago, but hadn’t heard anything from them in a long time. This time they were back with new material, soon to be released, and it sounded great. Too bad Aardvarck was rocking the upstairs room so hard. This interfered with the audio downstairs and lured away a good portion of the crowd. This resulted in a half-full main room where stunning visuals and two nodding heads were the focus. Good music with an old school (but not outdated) feel to it. We can stop saying: ’they don’t make music like this anymore’ because B12 does…

Quick trip to the Melkweg to see Spektrum and Soulwax Nite versions. As expected Soulwax rocked the stage! Minor problem, there were about twice as much people in the room as there was room for. This prevented me from walking to the front for some serious dancing. Even on the balcony there was no room left. But that’s what you get from arriving just in time for a show. Normally I would have stayed in the MAX all night, so as not to miss anything. Spektrum was a bit too slow for my taste, however their stage presence was great! Really nice vibe.

Back to Paradiso for my most anticipated performance: Jackson and his computerband. Check out his excellent album Smash. He opened with the non album track Radio caca which was featured on the Warp-records website as background track a while ago. Lots of people knew what they were there to see so a cheer of recognition filled the upstairs room. Jackson indicated to the sleeping soundman he wanted some more volume, no response. This happened at least 5 more times. Too bad, why do those sound-guys always seem to f*ck up during these performances? Anyway: AMAZING music! Then it was off to the main room for Motor. Hearing a lot about these guys. Sweatbox rocked dance floors all over Europe. I had expected a lot more from these guys. Musically it sounded fine, maybe not really hard enough for my taste. Shame they had no stage presence or credibility at all. Wearing handcuffs on you belt, or wearing a pair of pilot sunglasses doesn’t make you a bad-ass. Which is what I think they wanted to look like. They looked like teenagers, maybe they should have worn Zombie nations mask?

So back to the Melkweg for the last time this night. Boys Noize really knocked my socks of again. But he couldn’t touch 2 many Dj’s. This was only my third time to see them and while some people are getting tired of it, I will never get tired of this! These guys know their stuff. After dancing in the crowd for a while and getting constantly bowled over by two stupendously drunk girls, I decided to move to the balcony where there was still some room to dance. The brothers displayed a degree of telepathy that is unparalleled in the dj world. It looked like they could use each others ears when mixing in new records. It just didn’t matter where the headphones were, they mixed things up perfectly. Ending with the Beastie Boys, they drained my last drop of energy. A great end to a great 5 Days Off for me! Untill next year…”
